Climate Change for Astronomers
Thursday, January 7, 2016, 2:00 - 3:30 pm
Sanibel Room
Session Description
Climate change is a massive global environmental, economic, and socio-political problem. Astronomers understand atmospheres and energy transport.  Since more than 300,000 undergraduates in the U.S. take an astronomy course each year, we have an opportunity to help by teaching.

Program
2:00 Social meet & greet

2:10 Introduction

2:15 Keynote Talk: Prof. Don Chambers (U. South Florida), "Ocean observations of climate change"

2:45 Climate change in Astro 101: Interactive Demonstration
Katy Garmany (NOAO), Julia Kregenow (PSU), Doug Duncan (Colorado)

A few slides on teaching climate change in introductory astronomy courses are given in on the Teaching page.
